The technology should be ready for early stage clinical trials or sufficiently characterized to begin first in human trials within 3 years of funding inception

The proposal must be submitted by a TEAM of laboratory and clinical faculty (at least one from each arena) with one designated as the principal investigator (PI)
- The PI and at least one Investigator in each arena should be at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level. Additional Co-Investigators that are not faculty (e.g. Research Associates) may be proposed

The clinical investigator must be a physician currently engaged in clinical practice
Priority is given to at least one project with a pediatric focus submitted by a PI with a primary or secondary faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics.
PROCESS
- Investigators submit a 1-2 page web-based preapplication in early January.
- DTRI reviews the pre-applications, and a selected group of applicants are invited to submit a full application for detailed review.
- Finalists are chosen to deliver an oral presentation prior to final selection.
- Final award is contingent upon agreement to final project plan at a kick-off meeting conducted prior to funding start date.
METRICS- TRANSLATIONAL UNITS
Projects are tracked throughout the funding period based on the aims and project plan proposed in the application. Tracking continues throughout the entire translational life-cycle with assistance provided by the DTRI and collaborators to help achieve and/or determine if additional translational units can be achieved.
