The Duke Clinical Research Unit provides specialized facilities, staff, resources, and expertise in conducting early phase clinical research. The following services are available:
- Project management
- Research coordination
- Biostatistics
- Data management
- Randomization
- Lab sample collection and processing
- Subject recruitment
- Subject reimbursement
- Pharmacy services: Packaging; Drug storage; Drug dispensing
The DCRU is a 13,000 sq ft facility with
- 3 proof-of-concept dormitory rooms accommodating 8 adult or 6 pediatric beds
- 10 licensed hospital beds including 2 "infant family rooms"; permits "standard-of-care" services
- Outpatient facility with 3 infusion chairs and 2 exam/procedure rooms
- Metabolic kitchen: Regular, therapeutic, and research diets; Controlled feeding studies; Infant formula preparation
- Specimen collection and fully-equipped specimen processing/storage labs
- Investigational pharmacy
- Security: cameras, alarms with locked doors, locked elevators, on-site 24/7 Duke security personnel
