Up one level Last modified October 15, 2009 09:26 AM - EST

On February 23-25, 2010 the Office for Faculty Development will host the first Duke Course in Scientific Management and Leadership. This 3-day interactive learning program is designed to equip early career faculty with the professional competencies to effectively lead a successful scientific research enterprise.

Course goals include:

  • Develop skills to set up and run effective and successful scientific laboratories or research programs.
  • Promote collaboration with peers, senior investigators, and research staff.
  • Foster innovation and teamwork.
  • Discover and develop leadership skills to increase personal and team productivity.

I invite anyone who is interested to explore the CSML website (below) and learn more about what the program has to offer. Applications (due Oct 1, 2009) are open to all junior faculty. The most competitive applicants will be School of Medicine faculty who are beginning to lead a research team, and have a clearly identified commitment to research as the principal focus of their career. Accepted applicants will be required to attend the full three days. Course fees will be covered by the School of Medicine. A letter of support from each applicant's department chair or supervisor is a required part of the application.

I hope you will take a moment to learn more about this exciting new opportunity. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
